Book Review: Rescue Me

When Deputy Sam Brooks commits to something, nothing can sway him--not just on the job but in his private life. He's the one who stuck around to take care of his mother after his father's accidental death. And he's the one--perhaps the only one--who believes Sierra Rose is the perfect girl for him. Safe, practical, and organized, she's nothing like her hippie, impulsive, bleeding-heart sister, Willow.

Willow, however, has been in love with Sam Brooks for as long as she can remember. But she wants her sister to have a happy ending. Besides, Willow has other things to focus on--namely, nabbing the job of her dreams. Best thing for her to do is to purge Sam from her heart.

Neither can predict the events that will bring them together in a fight for their lives in the forbidding wilderness of Glacier National Park. Stranded, injured, and with the winter weather closing in, Sam and Willow will have to work together to save a crew of terrified teenagers. As they fight to survive, they might just discover a new hope for love.

My Reflections:

Ah, Susan May Warren, I love you! I'm so glad this book came out so close to the first titled "Wild Montana Skies" in the Montana Rescue series.

Action packed, emotionally charged and extremely intense are words I would use to describe Warren's "Rescue Me". This is the second book in a row that has a myriad of characters to account for. I think I am getting the hang of it though..just go with it.

Layers upon layers of life are contained in the pages of this novel, it's far too much for me to summarize neatly. But messy life is real and Warren has a gift for painting her characters with the perfect mix of complicated situations.

Deputy Sam Brooks is steadfast and logical, too bad matters of the heart are not as easy to detangle.
Is Sierra ready for a serious relationship and can his heart catch up where his head is leading?

Willow the perfect name for this character, passionate and faithful to a fault. Fading into the background. Can Willow put her real feelings aside and let love pass her by?

Will brothers Sam and Pete Brooks be able to heal from the family tragedy that has severed their relationship? Or will the chasm between them be just too much to forge?

This book is akin to a waterfall, one chapter tumbles down into the next careening you forward over the edge of the last page until you gasp for air finding yourself already fully submerged. Hopefully, the next two books will be released just as quickly, I have been left adrift, thinking on this plot well after it has concluded.

If you are craving a book where nature rules and the untamed wilderness is at battle with man, look no further, this one has that and so much more.

Book Review: Justice Delayed

In one week, the wrong man will be executed for murder.
Let the chase for the real killer begin.

Eighteen years ago, TV crime reporter Andi Hollister's sister was murdered. The convicted killer sits behind bars, his execution date looming.
But when a letter surfaces stating that the condemned didn't do the crime, Detective Will Kincaide of the Memphis Cold Case Unit will stop at nothing to help Andi get to the bottom of it.

After all, this case is personal: the man who confessed to the crime is Will's cousin. Andi and Will must find the real killer before the wrong person is executed.
But what can happen in only a week? Uncovering police corruption, running for your life, and, perhaps, falling in love?

My Reflections:

If you love mystery and suspense, are able to follow a complex plot and a multitude of characters this is the story for you!

Characters with authentic issues, strong writing, and enjoyable twists are just a few of the things I adored about this book. The plot is well thought out with future editions to be explored.

The subject matter is complex and the cast of characters plentiful, add that to a duel-timeline and wow this story really packs a punch!

I found this read a little heavy at times making this book a little tricky to maneuver. I did, however, find that I enjoyed Bradley's first book in the "A Memphis Cold Case" series. At first, I tried extremely hard to keep everyone straight..then I gave up and just started reading for the pure enjoyment of it.

I think my favorite character was by far Andi So no nonsense and brave, if not headstrong mixed with a dash of recklessness. Her journey is astounding, not even a heart defect or a bullet can stop her from fighting. Be warned this book deals with addiction, it may not be appropriate for some audiences.

I would definitely recommend this book for all the thinkers out there who have more brain space than I. Action packed and full of mystery and suspense you will certainly not find yourself bored with Patricia Bradley's newest series. I am anticipating the next book, perhaps the plot will unravel in my brain just a little more :-)

Book Review: For the Record

From the Back:

Rather Than Wait for a Hero, She Decided to Create One
Betsy Huckabee has big-city dreams, but nobody outside of tiny Pine Gap, Missouri, seems interested in the articles she writes for her uncle's newspaper. Her hopes for independence may be crushed, until the best idea she's ever had comes riding into town.

Deputy Joel Puckett didn't want to leave Texas, but unfair circumstances have made moving to Pine Gap his only shot at keeping a badge. Worse, this small town has big problems, and masked marauders have become too comfortable taking justice into their own hands. He needs to make clear that he's the law in this town--and that job is made more difficult with a nosy reporter who seems to follow him everywhere he goes.

The hero Betsy creates to be the star in a serial for the ladies' pages is based on the dashing deputy, but he's definitely fictional. And since the pieces run only in newspapers far away, no one will ever know. But the more time she spends with Deputy Puckett, the more she appreciates the real hero--and the more she realizes what her ambition could cost him.

My Reflections:

Historical romance at its finest with Regina Jennings's newest book "For the Record."
Nothing screams desperate like an annoying maiden past her prime traipsing through the backcountry looking for a good story..or perhaps a dashing hero?

Betsy Huckabee is just that girl. A dreamer, a budding writer, a tad desperate to be heard, to be taken seriously to be swept off her feet, well not really. Betsy is done with men after all she has given them up entirely, that is until a newcomer arrives at the dusty depot, ruffled and sure of himself. She only intends to use him as fodder for her articles, but what happens next is quite the unexpected.

Deputy Joel Puckett finds his new post in Pine Gap simply exasperating. Not only does he lack the support from the townspeople, but he also finds himself saddled with a less than a stellar horse and a bothersome sidekick. Can these two work out their differences long enough to bring law and order to this town or will winsome and headstrong Betsy ruin his every attempt? Will the fine deputy's past catch up with him?

Hilariously awkward, deliciously romantic and non-stop antics keep the pages flipping in this historical fiction. If you are looking for a tantalizingly sweet romance with action and humor, look no further this is your book!

Book Review: Moving Target

Intensity. Skill. Tenacity.
The bodyguards of Elite Guardians Agency have it all.

When Maddy McKay and Quinn Holcombe don't show up for Quinn's birthday party, his friends know that something is very wrong. Their search turns up little beyond evidence that Quinn and Maddy have vanished. And it soon becomes apparent that they did not leave of their own accord.

Maddy awakens in a cement room with no idea where she is. But it's not long before she realizes she's in the clutches of a madman who exacts revenge through games--hunting games. His prey of choice? Humans. Now Maddy and Quinn must run for their lives and outwit their killer when their game begins.

Because if they don't win this game . . . they die.

My Reflections:

Moving Target is Lenette Eason's third book in the Elite Guardian series.
Furiously fast-paced and thrillingly scary, are how I would describe this newest novel.

~Warning~once you pick this up you won't be putting it down, for anything until the last page is flipped. I'm not quite sure my nerves can take any more late night thrills, I'm seriously writing this review sleep deprived!

You will not expect the topsy-turvy plot. This story will grip you tightly, It will strap you onto a ride you will not be able to expel yourself from. One minute I'm screaming (quietly, as everyone was finally asleep) at the two main characters Maddy McKay and Quinn Holcombe, then I'm flinching at the next scene, ack!

This is the kind of novel that makes you start to check out your surroundings, oh my a truly twisted villain taken to an entirely new level. I can't reveal too many details, I'm not going to be a plot killer!

As always Lynette Eason has penned a spine-tingling thriller that is creepy, yet expertly written so that it is not over the top gory. I must confess though it is scary, did I mention that I was scared, yep, evil does lurk in our midst, but God is bigger than the boogie man!

If you are searching for a whole lot of excitement look no further this book has all the perfect elements of entertainment, romance, suspense, thrills, and faith!

I think although this is the third book in the series it can definitely be a read alone, although once you read it, you will be thirsty for more and I can pretty much guarantee you will need to read all the books in the Elite Guardians series.

#1) Always Watching
#2) Without Warning.

Book Review: Still Life

Someone Is Out There. Watching Her. Waiting.

Blacklisted in the photography business over a controversial shot, Avery Tate answered an ad for a crime-scene photographer. She expected to be laughed at, but crime-scene analyst Parker Mitchell hired her outright--and changed her life. But six months ago, when her feelings for Parker became too strong, she left his employ to sort out her heart.

Now, for the first time, Avery is facing the world that rejected her to attend the gallery opening of a photography exhibit for which her friend modeled. But the only image of her friend is a chilling photo of her posing as if dead--and the photographer insists he didn't take the shot. Worse, her friend can't be found, and so Avery immediately calls Parker for help.

As Avery, Parker, and their friends in law enforcement dig into the mystery, they find themselves face-to-face with a relentless and deadly threat.

My Reflections:

Still Life is book two in the Chesapeake Valor series. Though not necessary to read these books in order I would highly recommend you read book one "Cold Shot" as it will make the threads of these stories come together seamlessly.

This novel packs a punch, it is spine-tinglingly suspenseful and high on the creepy scale. The author Dani Pettrey has weaved a fanciful tale with this one. We delve into the mind of the villain, his twisted thinking had me flipping pages madly. My husband thought I was speed reading!

I simply adored Avery and Parker! The relationship between these two seemed real to life and the chemistry just right without being over done. The troubled pasts both Avery and Parker experienced held such heartbreak, and pain, yet Pettrey fleshes out the story to create a realistic and moving progression.

This is a very memorable, fast-paced tale, I am anxiously awaiting book three, "Blind Spot," set to be released in October 2017.

If you are looking to read a novel that has it all, this may be just right for you!

Book Review:Glimmer Girls Light up New York

From The Back:

This is a Faithgirlz title, the 4th and final book in Award winning singer Natalie Grant's Glimmer Girls series.
Join twins Mia and Maddie and their sidekick little sister, Lulu, as they travel the country finding adventure, mystery, and sometimes mischief along the way. Together with their famous mother, singer Gloria Glimmer, and their slightly wacky nanny Miss Julia, the sisters learn lessons about being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole lot more.
In this fourth book in the Faithgirlz Glimmer Girls series, the Glimmer family is headed to the Big Apple—New York City! Gloria has been asked to perform a concert in Times Square and the whole family joins her. Miss Julia immediately starts planning a sightseeing trip for the sisters that will be better than all the rest but plans never turn out exactly as they imagine when the Glimmer girls are involved. So what happens when sibling rivalry, random acts of kindness, and a little mystery all meet up at some of the most famous sights in New York City?

My Reflections:

This is the last book in this series, and my daughter who is 9 is extremely hopeful that the author Natalie Grant will change her mind! My girl has read almost all of these novels and can't get enough of the twins Mia, Maddie and little sister Lulu's crazy adventures. This time they travel with their superstar mom, their dad, and the nanny to New York City, where adventure and mystery are to be found.

These girls seem to find a mystery where ever they travel, this time they hunt out the riddle of the "snow angel." First, they must overcome sibling rivalry and a whole host of other difficulties.

As a parent, it is always nice to see a book delve into the issues kids face on a daily basis. I appreciated that this book was a good starting point for a few of those topics. Be warned this book does deal with a lot of attitudes and behaviors. (Maddie sneaks out without permission from an adult, and there are many instances of sassy talk and naughty behavior) These are addressed with prayer. The book continues on from the last novels in the series (London Art Chase, A Dolphin Wish, and Miracle in Music City) with encouraging random acts of kindness which I so appreciated.

If you have an adventurous pre-teen in your life who enjoys a good mystery, I'm sure they will love Natalie Grant's newest installment of Glimmer Girls!

I was given this book free of charge in return for my honest review by Book Look Bloggers, Thank you Book Look!

Book Review: In the Shadow of Denali

From the Back:

Their Future Depends on Unlocking the Secrets the Mountain Holds From the PastCassidy Ivanoff and her father, John, work at the new and prestigious Curry Hotel near the foot of Mount McKinley--Denali as it's still called by the natives. John is the wilderness and exploration guide for the wealthy tourists while Cassidy works in the kitchen as Cook's assistant. The entire staff buzzes with excitement during the busy days preparing for the President's imminent visit. His historic trip to dedicate the new national park on his way to driving in the golden spike to officially complete the Alaska Railroad will be the beginning of a new era for all of them and place The Curry at the heart of Alaska.

Allan Brennan travels to the Curry Hotel to be an apprentice to the seasoned Alaska mountain guide, with hopes of discovering the truth about his father's death on the mountain years earlier. His father's business partner blames the guide for Henry Brennan's untimely death, but Allan cannot be at peace until he knows for sure. He finds an unlikely ally in Cassidy, and as the two begin to look into the mystery, they suddenly find that things are much less clear, and much more dangerous, than either could ever imagine.

My Reflections:

Ahh, yes please, I loved the backdrop, this book set in Alaska beckoned me to pick it up and read its pages. This wild, raw state was my first real trip and boy did it bring back many fond memories of our honeymoon not so many years ago.

Set in the 1900's "In the Shadow of Denali" is a splendid historical fiction. We are treated to adventure, mystery and a love story to boot, what more could a reader want?
The main characters Cassidy and Allan forge a sweet yet tentative relationship, learning more about themselves and what God has in store for their future.

I quite enjoyed how the plot played out, I was pleasantly surprised at the many twists and turns. However, this is not an on the edge of your seat kind of read but more of a meandering enjoyable ramble. I didn't find myself bored at all reading this story, it was interesting mainly because of my fondness to Alaska, The plot was good and the characters likable. Some books grab you for different reasons, this one was perfect for a rainy afternoon read.

If you are hankering for a sweet little story, and stunning scenery this just might be the book for you!

Book Review: An uncommon Courtship

From the Back:

Lord Trent Hawthorne couldn't be happier he is not the duke in the family. Free to manage his small estate and take his time discovering the life he wants to lead, he has grand plans of someday wooing and falling in love with the woman of his choice. When he finds himself honor bound to marry a woman he barely knows, his dream of a loving marriage like his parents' seems lost forever.

Life for Lady Adelaide Bell was easier when she hid in her older sister's shadow--which worked until her sister got married. But even with her socially ambitious mother's focus entirely on her, the last thing she expected was a marriage of convenience before she's been introduced to society.

With nothing going as expected, can Trent and Adelaide's marriage of obligation survive their own missteps and the pressures of London society to grow into a true meeting of hearts and minds?
My Reflections:

This is the third book in the Hawthorne House series, written by Kristi Ann Hunter. I would recommend reading these in order as it gives the reader insight into the family dynamics and essential back stories.

I so wanted to be swept away with this novel, I loved the plots concept, the cover, and the main character Adelaide. She was quirky and different. I felt her pain, such a hard situation to endure, but even my endearment to this character just couldn't turn this novel around for me.

I think most of my disinterest stemmed from Trent Hawthorne, can we say wishy washy? He was hot then cold. He didn't act as I thought one might in his situation, forced marriage or not. The steamy romance was a little over the line, nothing explicit just a tad too much detail for my liking. It may have seemed essential in the development of a new marriage, but I don't need those details to enjoy a story. Please use caution when handing this one over to your teen. I rate this 18 plus for the young adults in your life.

The backdrop centered around tedious tea serving sessions and high society musings, the monotony was just too much for me.

I love the whole marriage of convenience scenario, the regency era and such but this book just did not deliver for me, but perhaps I just need more tea? This is just one reviewer's humble opinion It may very well be another person's absolute favorite.

Book Review: A Moonbow Night

From The Back:
Her wilderness survival skills are without rival.
But her greatest talent is keeping other people's secrets.

After fleeing Virginia, Temperance Tucker and her family established an inn along the Shawnee River. It's a welcome way station for settlers and frontiersmen traveling through the wild Cumberland region of Kentucke--men like Sion Morgan, a Virginia surveyor who arrives at the inn with his crew, looking for an experienced guide.

Though he balks when Tempe is appointed to lead his team through the wilderness, it isn't long before Sion must admit that her abilities may outmatch his own. But can the tenuous tie they are forming survive the dangers waiting just around the bend?

From the Back:

Author Laura Frantz yet again swept me off my feet and draw me into the pages of this rugged tale.

Frantz, a master storyteller, makes her readers feel as if they are truly alongside her characters. I must confess I completely lost track of time as I tramped through the untamed wilds of  Kentucky's backwoods in the year 1777.

The cadence and tempo of the writing kept beat with the windy underbrush and the ever present danger of ambush. The tension was tangible as the very breath within me. I was taken with the poetic lilt of the writing; it was beautiful and expressive.

There were quite a few unusual word choices mixed within the pages of this story, many of which I found I had to look up. It might have been helpful if a glossary was included. The occurrence of " a Moonbow" intrigued me and I had to do some research, how fascinating that this is a phenomenon, how I would love to witness such a sight!

Tempe Tucker is a backwoodsman's dream; she can do all things and well! Cooking, cleaning, hunting, tracking you name it this girl has it covered! It is no wonder since she has had to fend for herself and knit together family in the middle of a remote Kentucky forest.

When Tucker and his crew of ragtag misfits come, a calling Tempe is drawn to the rugged leader in ways she can't explain. Although both of these characters have a pack of issues, they carry around, and this taints their every decision. Rooted in the past can these two ever work together harmoniously, or will the hardened edges of hurt and betrayal poison their very existence?

If you are looking for a rich and complex read look no further, this book has it all. Robust in imagery and endearing in character, you won't want to miss Frantz's new novel!
